From - Thu May 31 17:52:05 2001 Date: Thu, 31 May 2001 17:51:56 -0500 From: John <fishes@brainerd.net> To: Tim Goeman <tim.goeman@dnr.state.mn.us> Subject: Orangespotted sunfish permit
May 31, 2001 Mr. Goeman, I received the permit to import longear sunfish today. I see that you have denied the importation of orangespotted sunfish on the grounds that they are a non-indigenous species. This is incorrect because they are found just to the west of us. I have seen them occasionally in forage minnows from that area. According to Fishes of Wisconsin they are found in most of the southern 1/3 of Minnesota. Also, my levee ponds are licensed for non-indigenous species so even if they were non-indigenous I can still legally import them for those ponds. The supplier says he can't provide any orangespots so I will be looking for another source; possibly in WI. I trust this matter can be resolved in time for this spawning season. Sincerely, John Reynolds Midwest Fish and Crayfish 26385 County Road 3 Merrifield MN 56465
